Unquestionably, the biggest activity in the Hunter Valley is visiting the numerous cellar doors. Each year millions of wine lovers drive between the vineyards to sample all manner of vintages.
Needless to say, there comes a time when other pursuits are equally as important. Consequently, your hosts have spent much time researching what is likely to appeal during your stay.
The Congewai Valley is sixteen kilometres long and eventually disappears into the Watagans National Park. Mountain bikes are available at Mandalay Villas for anyone game enough to cycle part or all of the way there and back. Bush walkers will enjoy this scenic route just as much.
All manner of board games and books are available in the villas – enjoy a tense session of scrabble or backgammon accompanied with a glass of wine by the pool.
Off site there is golf, skydiving, horse riding, hot air ballooning, scenic flights over the Hunter Valley in a helicopter, which will collect you from outside your villa for a nominal fee, trips in a bi-plane and, for the less adventurous, a pleasant stroll around the magnificent Hunter Valley Gardens and adjacent Shopping Village.
The Hunter Valley has become synonymous with music events. These can be small intimate classical recitals, slightly larger folk and blues festivals or full blown rock 'n' roll concerts. Outdoor arenas at a number of the bigger wineries have provided sound stages for international super groups such as Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Eagles, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Simply Red, Simple Minds and Bruce Springsteen to name but a few. Check out our Facebook page for upcoming bands and their concert dates.
